A Short Easter Meditation

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
Matthew 28:6 (New International Version

Today is Easter! Depending on how you grew up, this holiday may have been another occasion to eat candy, or it could have been another occasion where you sat in church longer.

For me, it was both.

As a child, I would go to my children's church class and learn a little bit about how Jesus died and then rose from the dead, three days later. Then, I would eat a bunch of candy, participate in an Easter Egg hunt, and then go somewhere for lunch (not to mention the post-church, post-lunch nap that ensued).

I would barely think of what that meant.

Easter is so much more than the post-church lunch, the Easter Egg hunts, and the beginning of Spring. Even the phrase "Jesus rose from the dead" has even been taken for granted. It's a lot like how we take Christmas for granted, sometimes.

Easter is about how Jesus rose from the dead and about how he defeated Death and Satan, and the powers of darkness. Easter is about our present hope as Christians, how we as followers of Christ can live in his Kingdom now, even though he hasn't yet returned. Easter is also about a future hope--how Jesus will one day bring about a new Heaven and a new Earth, where the effects of sin will be fully erased, and broken Creation restored to how it was in the beginning, perfect, whole, and good.

Now, I encourage you to embrace this Easter day—share meaningful moments with loved ones and yes, enjoy those chocolate bunnies too! While celebrating, take some time to explore the deeper significance of Easter through the resources I've shared below. They might just transform how you experience this profound holiday!
